An important 19th century work by Henri Faugeron from the belle Époque period with a decor that tends towards the early Art Nouveau period.

Imposing work with a total height of 73 cm. Glazed earthenware in a daring combination of gold on earth tones, something he often applies in his works.
The vase is decorated with two striking green glazed panthers, each taking a different pose and looking in a different direction.

The work is marked at the bottom with his monogram Two F's standing back to back which gives an 'H' in the middle.

Works by Henri Faugeron are exhibited in the 'Musée Adrien Dubouché à Limoges.
He is mentioned in the book 'Faïence et porcelaine de Paris des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles' (1995)


What do we know about the artist Henri Faugeron?
Qualified by Lœbnitz Paris as one of the most experienced and learned decorators of that time. He was a specialist in decorating fine earthenware and porcelain, he would continue to do this until his death in 1891. From Limoges, Faugeron came to Paris in 1854 where he started working for Michel Aaron as a decorator of statues and fantasy objects.
Between 1859 and 1860 he set up his own company and decorated fine earthenware shapes. It is also known that he worked with soft porcelain from Thomas (choisy-le-roy). In addition to his own sales, he supplied models to Hache Julien in Vierzon.
In the meantime, Faugeron had become an important and established name among Parisian decorators and received an honourable mention in 1867 and a silver medal in 1889.
In 1862, Faugeron had a branch near the salpetrière with a printing works, another gilding works and a cooking laboratory with three ovens.
